Water Treatment System and Operation at Remote Radar Site

Oil Spill Clean Up at Remote Radar Site

Client: Well-established International Consultant
Location: Brevoort Island, Nunavut
Industry: Military

Project Overview:
SCG Remediation Services was engaged by a long-time client to support the clean-up of a fuel oil spill at a remote radar site on Brevoort Island, located in the Davis Strait off the eastern coast of Baffin Island. The project required the implementation of an effective water treatment system to ensure the successful completion of the clean-up effort.

Key Challenges:

  • Logistical Difficulties: The remote location necessitated the transportation of all equipment, supplies, and personnel by helicopter.
  • Cold Temperatures: The system had to be robust enough to maintain efficiency in cold environmental conditions.

Technical Execution: SCG designed and deployed a comprehensive water treatment system, which included:

  • Equipment Transport and Setup: All necessary components, including a feed pump, settling tank, transfer pump, sediment filters, carbon drums, and a vac system for drum cleaning and carbon replacement, were transported to the site by helicopter.
  • System Operation: A technician was also flown in to operate the system, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning.

Results:

  • Successful Implementation: The water treatment system operated effectively in the harsh, cold conditions of Brevoort Island.
  • Project Completion: The clean-up was successfully completed within two weeks, staying on budget and meeting the project objectives.

Conclusion: This project underscores SCG Remediation Services’ ability to deliver effective and reliable solutions in challenging and remote environments. The successful deployment and operation of the water treatment system at the remote radar site on Brevoort Island demonstrate SCG’s expertise in managing complex military environmental remediation projects.
